Is it the right time?

I have come to the conclusion that we should be asking ourselves, “is the timing right?”

I have been going through a daily devotional each morning, and the subject for this week is covering the topic “Improve Your Attitude.” This is something that I continue to work on. Not because I inherently have a bad attitude, it is just that with all the craziness going on in the world, sometimes I could use an adjustment.

The study has really hit home about God’s timing and how things will fall in place when the time is right.

There are times when I just wish things moved a little quicker. I know…I know. I need to be patient and allow things to develop at God’s pace, but patience was never my strongest virtue and I don’t dare pray for patience because then God will do everything to make sure I get to practice it.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” I have always said that if you want to make God laugh, tell Him what you have planned for tomorrow.

Just a recap for those that may not have been following along; I lost my job in June 2019, I have done some contracting, drove rideshare and just recently decided to open my own consulting firm. I had several website clients for years and continue to do minor work for them as well.

But, since deciding to begin my own firm, I have been approached by several entities to possible bring them on as clients, and I am still in the process of getting my business setup.

I have my LLC filed with the state and obtained my Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS, ordered my business cards, updated my website and begun preliminary contacts with possible business contacts.

I have yet to develop a business plan (something I feel I need to urgently do) and finalize my business operations.

However, I feel God is showing me that my decision was the right one and now is the time.

This is not the first-time doors have unexpectedly open.

My first startup was WaveRunner Web Design, I know…it’s cheesy, but it was the early 90’s. I was working for a local municipality and had just redesigned the entire website for the city. This was prior to content management systems and everything was html coded. I was contacted by another municipality and they wanted to know who we got to redesign the site. I told them that I had done it in-house and we had not contracted out to anyone. They were disappointed because they were looking to farm it out and were looking for someone. I immediately told them I would call them back.

I went to my supervisor and asked for the afternoon off and immediately went home and called them. By the end of the week I had my first client; and did not even have a business name yet, or even a home computer.

But the timing was right, and the doors opened.

As you are sitting here right now, what is your passion? What is something you have always wanted to do?

The question should never be if the time is right. Sometimes we spend a lifetime waiting for the right time. Is it the right time to have kids, is it the right time to change jobs and is it the right time to chase your passion?

The question should be – is the timing right? Are the doors opening and are we hesitating to step out because it is not the right time?

Is the timing right to chase your dreams? Only you know how to answer.
